UFOA-B U20: Burkina Faso and Ghana share the spoils with a 1-1 draw
Setback for Burkina Faso. With a man advantage since the end of the first half, the U20 Stallions were held to a 1-1 draw against Ghana on Thursday in the second matchday of the UFOA-B tournament, qualifying for the 2027 U20 AFCON.
Louckman Tapsoba strikes first, Ghana answers back
Burkina Faso drew first blood. Louckman Tapsoba opened the scoring with a powerful direct free-kick, the only goal for the Stallions in this contest. But the Black Satellites hit back as Joseph Badu equalised before halftime to snatch a point. Late in the game, Oscar Barro’s side couldn’t capitalize on their numerical superiority to seal the win.
The standings tighten up
This result puts Burkina Faso on 4 points from 2 matches, following their 3-1 win over Togo. The Stallions sit second in Group B with a +2 goal difference. Out in front, Nigeria leads the way with 6 points after their opening 4-2 victory over Ghana and 3-0 win over Togo on Thursday. Ghana are third with only 1 point after their 2-4 defeat to defending champions Nigeria.
Decisive final matchday ahead
The final matchday promises to be thrilling. Ghana will face Togo in a battle at the bottom, while Nigeria and Burkina Faso clash at the top. Nigeria only need a draw to secure first place, while a draw would also be enough for Burkina Faso to book their ticket to the quarter-finals. Ghana will look to beat Togo and hope for a slip-up from the U20 Stallions.
The stakes are huge. The two finalists of the UFOA-B tournament will clinch a spot at the 2027 U20 AFCON, to be held in Ghana.
