The Cairo International Stadium erupted in celebration as Egypt wrapped up their 2026 World cup qualifying campaign with 1 - 0 victory over Guinea Bissau on Sunday night.
Celebration without Salah but with star support
Team captain Mohamed Salah was rested for the match after Egypt had already sealed qualification in the previous round.
The Liverpool star watched the game from the stands alongside his wife while injured forward Omar Marmoush also attended joining fans in the celebratory atmosphere filled with music & chants.
Hamdy scores, Egypt dominate group A
Left back Mohamed Hamdy netted his first international goal in the 10 minute heading home perfect cross from Ahmed Nabil Koka.
Forward Mostafa Mohamed came close to doubling the lead but saw his header bounce off the crossbar late in the 1st half.
Egypt finished their qualifying campaign unbeaten topping Group A with 26 point from 8 win and 2 draw (5 point clear of Burkina Faso who move to the playoffs).
A 4th World cup for the Pharaohs
This marks Egypt’s fourth World cup appearance after previous qualifications in 1934, 1990 and 2018.
