Scenes of tension followed Egypt’s 3-2 win over Ivory Coast in the AFCON 2025 quarter final after Elephants head coach Emerse Fae refused to shake hands with defender Yasser Ibrahim in Agadir.

Egypt sealed their place in the semi finals on Saturday night but the drama continued after the final whistle at Adrar Stadium.

Television footage showed Yasser Ibrahim approaching Emerse Faé in the technical area to offer handshake, only for the Ivory Coast coach to turn away and respond angrily.

The moment quickly escalated into brief confrontation between the two. Players from both teams moved in preventing the exchange from becoming more heated and restoring order within seconds.

The incident followed tense sequence late in the match when Yasser Ibrahim was involved in physical exchange with an Ivory Coast player on the pitch.

Referee Mustapha Ghorbal of Algeria stepped in after full time and ensured the situation did not spiral.

Egypt now move on to face Senegal while Ivory Coast’s campaign ends amid controversy as well as disappointment.
