WAFCON 2026: Federation sets target for Burkina Faso women's national team

On Thursday, February 19, at the Stade du 4 Août, the Burkina Faso women’s team kicked off the second phase of their preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The president of the Burkinabé Football Federation (FBF) paid a visit to the squad, which is coached by Pascal Sawadogo.

Oumar Sawadogo outlined Burkina Faso’s ambitions for this major women’s football event.
He said: “Our team is very young. This is only our second appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations. We won’t set the bar too high. First, we’ll ask them to get past the group stage, and then we’ll see what happens in the knockout rounds. The team with the strongest desire can go the furthest.”

Head coach Pascal Sawadogo shares this vision.

This second appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations is a chance to prove ourselves. By my calculations, we can get through the group stage.

The team captain is both realistic and ambitious. “Like any good competitor, we have to manage the pressure. The goal is to do better than our first appearance. Everything starts with that first win, because in our debut, our best result was a draw. Once we get a victory, we’ll aim for the quarterfinals—and why not dream of lifting the trophy?” said Charlotte Millogo.
