Brought in for €10 million, Congolese-born Samuel Mbangula has yet to fully convince at Bremen.

In the German Cup clash against Arminia Bielefeld, he only came on for half an hour, with his team already down to ten men. The following morning, he played 45 minutes in a friendly against Osnabrück but struggled to make a real impact.

The 21-year-old Belgian is just coming back from a foot injury and a hectic summer, which included the Club World Cup with Juventus and a shortened holiday. His integration remains gradual, according to coach Horst Steffen:

You can see his class in certain moments, he has real potential. But he's still lacking intensity, especially in his runs and changes of pace.

Still, the coach remains optimistic. He hopes his player will find his rhythm by the Bundesliga opener next Saturday against Eintracht Frankfurt. Mbangula could then hope for more significant playing time.
