A lot of news has been conflicting about the possibility of the former former Manchester United assistant coach taking over the responsibility of coaching the Kenyan national football team, succeeding Engin Firat, whose journey reached an impasse with the Harambee Stars and leaving the post to Francis Kimanzi as a temporary option for the Kenyan Football Federation.

Benny McCarthy was the preferred option from the very beginning for the Kenyan federation, and it seems that he is approaching this opportunity due to the great experience that the South African received previously as a player and more recently as a coach in Europe.
