Who is the all-time top African scorer in the FIFA Club World Cup?
Just days away from the kickoff of the historic edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13, 2025 with a new 32-team format, the anticipation is building around individual performances and the stars to watch.
While Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo sits atop the all-time scorers’ chart with 7 goals, Africa is represented by a fierce all-Egyptian rivalry for supremacy on this global stage.
El Shahat and Aboutrika: the jewels of African football
The two Egyptian legends, Hussein El Shahat and Mohamed Aboutrika, share the top spot among African scorers in the tournament’s history, each having netted 4 goals.
El Shahat began his journey with Al Ain (UAE), scoring his debut goal against Espérance de Tunis in the 2018 edition. Since moving to Al Ahly, he’s added three more goals to his tally, striking against Al-Duhail (Qatar), Al-Ittihad (Saudi Arabia), and Auckland City (New Zealand).
Mohamed Aboutrika, for his part, shone in his 11 matches with Al Ahly, scoring four goals against Auckland City, Club América (Mexico), and Sanfrecce Hiroshima (Japan).
