The split between Wilfred Ndidi and Leicester City seems imminent. With the Foxes relegated to the EFL Championship for next season, the Nigerian midfielder now sees a clear exit route. Highly sought-after as the summer transfer window approaches, a departure from the King Power Stadium appears to be on the cards for the 28-year-old.

Signed in January 2017 from Genk, Wilfred Ndidi has steadily become a cornerstone for the Foxes. With over 300 appearances and despite recurring injury setbacks, he has played a key role in the club’s successes, including their FA Cup triumph and promotion to the Premier League. In July 2024, he extended his contract until 2027. That deal includes a £9 million release clause (about €10.5M) in case of relegation.

Leicester’s relegation to the Championship has triggered this clause. This provision makes the player available this summer and allows him to freely negotiate his departure. That’s hardly unwelcome news for the Super Eagles midfielder, who already has several previous suitors for the summer transfer window. This clause is a golden opportunity for them.

According to rumors, clubs like Crystal Palace, Fulham, and Everton have already shown interest in Ndidi. Turkish sides are also reportedly considering a move for him. The latest updates suggest the Foxes are currently in talks with Fenerbahçe for the Nigerian’s transfer.
