Jürgen Klopp has distanced himself from speculation linking him to the Germany national team job, following the side’s shock Round‑of‑32 exit at the 2026 World Cup.

Germany’s tournament came to an abrupt end after a penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay on Monday night, reigniting debate over Julian Nagelsmann’s future. While the current coach has expressed his desire to continue, Klopp — a 59‑year‑old widely admired figure — would be a popular choice to revive a team that has now failed to meet expectations in three consecutive World Cups.

Currently serving as Red Bull’s head of global soccer and a pundit for Magenta TV, Klopp was asked whether he would consider taking the role.

I haven't thought about that yet. I've often been in that situation myself as a coach, where a big dream has been shattered,” he said. “I understand that when people talk about the national coach, my name is mentioned. But it's not the right moment to talk about it, especially not with me.

He added: “I have a job that I really enjoy, and as far as I know, it's not a part‑time job. The fact is, Germany were eliminated today, and this is not the moment for me to think about Jürgen Klopp's future.”

The defeat was particularly notable given Germany’s previously flawless record in World Cup penalty shootouts — a streak that ended against Paraguay in Boston. For now, Nagelsmann remains in charge, but the questions around his position are unlikely to fade.
