Julian Nagelsmann appeared visibly shaken after Germany’s shock exit from the 2026 World Cup at the hands of Paraguay, losing 4-3 on penalties in the round of 16. A brutal departure for a team that had been widely tipped as one of the favorites.

During the press conference, the German head coach was quick to clarify his stance on his future. Contrary to the immediate resignation rumors, the 38-year-old tactician made it clear he has no intention of stepping down on his own.

I am available if the federation wants to continue with me. If they don’t, they need to tell me. I am not someone who runs from his responsibilities. I know how football works. I know how the industry operates. I know a lot of people will want me to leave, but I’d like to continue if the DFB wants me.

Nagelsmann has thus passed the decision on to the DFB, who will have to make a call in the coming days after what many are calling one of the heaviest blows in recent years. The coach’s future now hangs completely in the balance.
