The Algerian team will look to bounce back after a disappointing start to their 2026 World Cup campaign when they face Jordan overnight from Monday to Tuesday, in the second round of the group stage.

Beaten 3-0 by Argentina in their opening match, the "Fennecs" can no longer afford any slip-ups if they want to keep their hopes of reaching the round of 16 alive. Jordan, meanwhile, also suffered defeat in their first game, losing to Austria (3-1).

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Vladimir Petković emphasized the importance of this fixture for his squad.

"What is certain is that we want to keep our fate in our own hands and deliver a performance worthy of our ambitions," declared the Algerian head coach.

The Swiss tactician also stated that the heavy defeat to Argentina did not fully reflect the flow of the game.

"We put in a decent performance, but we paid dearly for the exceptional individual quality of Lionel Messi," he explained.

Confident ahead of the clash with Jordan, Petković revealed that his staff had thoroughly analyzed their opponents.

"We have studied this team in detail. We know their strengths and weaknesses. Now it's up to us to find the solutions, get the win, and secure all three points," he added.

Petković backs Luca Zidane and gives an update on Amoura

Asked about the mistakes made by Luca Zidane in the match against Argentina, the Fennecs manager was quick to defend his goalkeeper.

"Every player can make mistakes. I have total confidence in Luca Zidane and his abilities," he affirmed.

Petković also addressed the situation of Mohamed Amine Amoura, whose participation in the upcoming match remains uncertain.

"I can't confirm his absence at this stage. There are still several hours before kick-off and we will make a final decision as close to the match as possible," he stated.

For the record, the match between Algeria and Jordan will be played at Levi’s Stadium in California under the supervision of Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić.
