World Cup 2026 (Q): bad news for Côte d'Ivoire!
Côte d'Ivoire will have to do without their attacking midfielder Hamed Junior Traoré for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Called up for the Elephants, the maestro from AJ Auxerre is suffering from persistent shoulder pain and has chosen to prioritize his recovery.
This weekend, Traoré was still on the field against OGC Nice, but his physical condition remains concerning. Suffering from recurring cartilage pain in his shoulders, the talented 25-year-old playmaker struggles to play consecutive matches:
"I underwent tests that confirmed cartilage problems. Every contact causes me pain, and I've decided to take a break to heal," he explained.
A blow for the Elephants
In light of this situation, the former player of Naples and Bournemouth informed coach Emerse Faé, who supported his decision: "He told me to prioritize my health," Traoré confides. Video:
The Elephants of Côte d'Ivoire will therefore have to face Burundi and Gambia without him. Despite this significant absence, the Ivorian squad can rely on other talents like Ibrahim Sangaré to bolster their midfield and continue their quest for a coveted ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
