World Cup 2026 (Q): Sudan without its defensive stalwart against Senegal!
Sudan will have to do without one of its defensive pillars for the clash against Senegal. Mustafa Karshom, an indispensable figure in the backline, is out for this crucial match on March 22 in Libya, part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
A key battle in Group B
Currently leading Group B with 10 points, Sudan must withstand the pressure from Senegal, second with eight points. This fifth-round confrontation could be decisive in the race for qualification.
The absence of Karshom complicates matters for coach Kwesi Appiah, who must reshape his defensive axis against the attackers of the Lions of Teranga.
What are the options to replace Karshom?
Two options now stand out for the Sudanese staff. Mohamed Ahmed Arnaq (Al-Hilal), familiar with the position and already performing well during the AFCON qualifiers, seems the most natural choice to support Abdel Rahman Koko.
However, Tayeb Abdelrazak, less experienced but often used as defensive reinforcement, could also be an alternative.
Kwesi Appiah will need to decide quickly to field a defense capable of withstanding Senegal's offensive power.
