World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Group B update and qualification scenarios

The qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup (Africa Zone) will continue in October with matches for the 9th and 10th rounds of the group stage.

Group B update

Senegal is the new leader of Group B with an impressive haul of 18 points. The Lions have claimed 5 wins and 3 draws, putting them 2 points ahead of their closest pursuers, the DR Congo Leopards.

Qualification scenarios

Senegal qualification

- 6 points from their next two matches against South Sudan and Mauritania

- 4 points from those two matches, provided DR Congo does not win both of theirs

- 3 points from those two games, provided DR Congo achieves the same result; or just 1 point, as long as DR Congo also picks up only one

- 2 defeats in their last two games, provided DR Congo earns only a single point and Sudan does not win both of their remaining matches

DR Congo qualification

- 6 points from their next two matches against Togo and Sudan, and a Senegal defeat in either of their remaining games

Sudan qualification

6 points from their final two matches against Mauritania and DR Congo, coupled with double defeats for both Senegal and DR Congo, and a superior goal difference
