A few minutes after Germany's elimination, captain Joshua Kimmich stepped in front of the cameras to share his feelings:

I feel terrible. We didn't play well against any of our opponents. We were exhausted against teams that are not world-class. We deserved to be eliminated.

He drove the point home: "It's not the coach, it's not the referee, it's not the opponent. It's us, the players. We're collapsing, and we take responsibility."

According to Kimmich, it is painful not to have been able to bring pride to German supporters, to whom he had hoped to pass on the same passion he felt as a child watching his country shine in major tournaments.
