Wydad rejects the proposal to sign Pedro and Mendy!
In recent days, rumors have been swirling about negotiations initiated by Wydad Athletic Club with Spanish forward Pedro Rodríguez, currently at Lazio Rome, and French left-back Benjamin Mendy of FC Zurich. The speculation suggested Wydad was looking to bolster its squad for the upcoming summer transfer window, ahead of the Club World Cup's new format.
However, according to Moroccan newspaper Al-Mountakhab, these negotiations were never official.
Wydad closes the door on Pedro and Mendy ahead of the Club World Cup
The outlet clarifies, after fact-checking, that it was merely an informal proposal from a third party, suggesting Pedro and Mendy as potential reinforcements for the Casablanca club ahead of the global competition.
The same source reports that Wydad's management immediately dismissed the idea. The club has a clearly defined recruitment strategy—not just focused on the international event—but aiming to build a competitive squad for the long term, both domestically and across the continent.
As a reminder, the draw for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13, has placed Wydad in Group G alongside Manchester City (England), Juventus (Italy), and Al-Ain (United Arab Emirates).
