FIFA’s Transfer Ban Portal's confirmed new registration ban on Egyptian giants Zamalek adding further pressure on the Cairo club already reeling from financial turmoil and continental setbacks.

The international body didn't disclose specific reasons for the latest sanction but the timing comes amid ongoing legal disputes involving former head coach Jaime Pacheco and ex- striker Khalid Boutaib, both of whom are demanding unpaid dues from their stints at the club.

Egypt’s Transfer Banned Clubs

According to the latest FIFA list 23 April 2025, seven egyptian clubs are currently barred from registering new players:

  • Zamalek
  • Wadi Degla
  • Ismaily
  • Eastern Company
  • Pyramids
  • Pharco
  • Aswan

The bans remain in effect until outstanding financial obligations are resolved with FIFA stressing that only full settlements will lift the restrictions.

Pyramids & the Electronic Passport Confusion

In related news Pyramids FC was also included in the updated FIFA ban list. Contrary to initial reports blaming unpaid dues to Omar Laayouni, FIFA source clarified the real issue lies with the incomplete digital registration of young nigerian player Samuel Ojo.

The player’s failure to obtain his electronic passport, new FIFA requirement for youth players turning professional led to the administrative sanction. The club's been told the ban will be lifted once this matter is resolved.

Zamalek in Crisis

Zamalek’s situation is particularly troubling:

  • Eliminated from the CAF confederation cup after quarter final loss to Stellenbosch
  • Sitting 3rd in the egyptian premier league with 38 point, two behind Al Ahly and 6 off league leaders Pyramids
  • Now forbidden from making signings, risking further instability ahead of the summer transfer window

Zamalek officials are working to resolve their financial issues before the next window but with growing debts and legal pressures, the road ahead remains steep.

As things stand , Zamalek cannot register any new players, making the upcoming weeks critical for the club’s future on both domestic and continental levels.
