Zamalek targets Adil Ramzi: The Moroccan coach responds to rumors
The name of Adil Ramzi, a well-known Moroccan coach, has returned to the spotlight following rumors of negotiations with the Egyptian club Zamalek, with a view to taking charge of the first team starting from the 2025/2026 season.
Currently the coach of the Netherlands U18 squad, Ramzi briefly broke his silence by telling a leading Egyptian media outlet: “We’ll see what happens, Insha’Allah kheir.”
A short answer, but one that suggests talks are indeed taking place, as Zamalek searches for a young foreign coach to spearhead its new project.
According to Moroccan media, including Le360 Sport, the Cairo club’s management has made contact with Ramzi to seriously explore this option.
Who is Adil Ramzi?
Born in Marrakech in 1977, Adil Ramzi is one of the most notable former Moroccan players to have played in Europe, particularly in the Dutch Eredivisie. He notably wore the shirts of PSV Eindhoven, Twente, Utrecht, as well as Udinese in Italy. He finished his professional career in Qatar, playing for Al-Wakrah and Umm Salal.
With the Moroccan national team, he earned more than 30 caps and scored 4 goals, participating in several major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the U20 World Cup.
A successful transition
Upon retiring in 2013, Ramzi began his coaching career in the Netherlands. He first worked at the PSV academy, then took charge of the reserve team (Jong PSV). In 2023, he tried his hand in Africa for the first time with Wydad Casablanca, whom he led to the CAF Champions League final.
For several months, he has been managing the Dutch U18 national team, focusing on the development and progress of young talents.
