The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Thursday, March 27, the opening of an investigation targeting four Real Madrid players for a possible violation of disciplinary regulations during their celebration on the Atlético Madrid pitch.

The most successful club in Champions League history (15 trophies) knocked out its Madrid rival after a victory in a penalty shootout during the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 (2024/2025 season).

Why is UEFA investigating four Real Madrid players?

In its statement, UEFA specified that the investigation concerns Antonio Rüdiger, Dani Ceballos, Vinícius Júnior, and Kylian Mbappé, due to their celebration deemed controversial at the end of the match at the Metropolitano stadium.

The European body is particularly interested in the gesture of German defender Antonio Rüdiger, who made a sign on his neck considered provocative. Meanwhile, the behavior of Frenchman Kylian Mbappé, deemed inappropriate, will also be examined.

The investigation will also focus on the provocations of Brazilian Vinícius Júnior, involved in altercations with Atlético supporters after the final whistle. Finally, the behavior of Spaniard Dani Ceballos will be scrutinized, notably an obscene gesture directed at opposing supporters.

It should be noted that this investigation follows an official complaint filed by Atlético Madrid, denouncing the actions of Real Madrid players after the match.
