2026 World Cup: FIFA announces new decision on water bottles!
Just days before the kickoff of the 2026 World Cup, FIFA has backtracked on a highly controversial measure. In response to mounting concerns over the expected extreme heat in North America, football’s global governing body has relaxed its rules regarding water bottles inside stadiums.
Indeed, after facing a wave of criticism over its initial water policy for stadiums, FIFA has reconsidered its stance as the 2026 World Cup approaches. The organization has opted to ease its regulations following several days of heated debate about the anticipated weather conditions in the United States and Canada.

The Chief Operating Officer for the 2026 World Cup, Heimo Schirgi, confirmed: “All fans will be permitted to bring a factory-sealed, 590 ml plastic water bottle to any World Cup match in the United States and Canada.”
This move marks a significant shift after the initial outright ban.
However, FIFA is maintaining its ban on hard-shell water bottles, citing “security risks.” Just days earlier, the organization had also emphasized that “FIFA is committed to protecting the health and safety of all players, referees, fans, volunteers, and staff,” as several experts have sounded the alarm about the high temperatures expected during the tournament.
