Al Ahly's new head coach revealed: contract details unveiled
The Egyptian club Al Ahly appears to have finally found its new head coach. After the dismissal of Danish manager Jess Thorup following a disappointing season that ended without a single trophy, the Cairo giants have set their sights on Moroccan coach Hussein Amouta.
Amouta has agreed terms with Al Ahly
According to Egyptian media outlet Yallakora, Al Ahly and Hussein Amouta have reached a full agreement on a one-year contract, which includes an option for extension.
The Moroccan tactician will earn an annual salary estimated at $1.5 million, not including the wages of his technical staff, which consists of four assistants (an assistant coach, a fitness coach, a goalkeeping coach, and a video analyst).
The official announcement of the deal is expected in the coming hours, while Amouta is set to take charge as soon as the final formalities regarding his arrival are completed.
A trophy-laden track record
At 56 years old, Hussein Amouta enjoys a solid reputation across the Arab and African football scenes. He famously led Wydad AC to CAF Champions League glory and the Moroccan league title in 2017. He also clinched the Botola Pro with AS FAR during the 2022-2023 season.
Previously, he guided FUS Rabat to the CAF Confederation Cup and the Throne Cup in 2010.
On the international stage, Amouta steered Morocco’s local national team to the 2020 African Nations Championship title, before orchestrating a remarkable run with Jordan, reaching the final of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
