For his first match, he will face Angola on March 20 before taking on Cameroon, as part of the 5th and 6th rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

During his first press conference as the head coach of Libya, El Tactico discussed the reasons that led him to take charge of the Mediterranean Knights.
With all humility, what interests me is the sports project. I am a project-oriented man. If it was about money, I would be elsewhere. When I arrived here, I felt a president and an executive committee who genuinely wanted me to become the coach of this country. I truly felt that they wanted me in this project. I am a project man, not an adventurer, I stayed 10 years in Senegal. If it was about money, I would have left Senegal since I won the Africa Cup. I am not a billionaire but Alhamdulillah.
Before coaching Libya, Aliou Cissé was the head coach of Senegal from 2014 to 2025, winning the African Championship in 2021.
