As expected, the controversial statements by Brazilian player Raphinha Diaz, star of FC Barcelona, dominated the press conference of Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni ahead of the decisive match against Brazil as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Raphinha provokes Argentina, Scaloni plays the diplomacy card

Scaloni responded with caution and respect to the words of the Seleção player, who had threatened to crush Argentina during their Wednesday clash. The Argentine coach stated: “I haven't dwelled on the details of the players' statements, but I've been informed. It's a match between Argentina and Brazil, an important match, but it's still just a football game.”

He continued: “I remember the image after the Copa América 2021, where Lionel Messi was sitting with Neymar on the steps of the Maracanã. That image should remain in memory. It's a football match, everyone wants to win, but there's no need to go further.”

Regarding his expectations for the match against Brazil, Scaloni clarified: “We know that during the match, it's possible to dominate and to be dominated. Brazil has the ability to dominate as it's one of the greatest teams in the world. We will be ready for that, but also to play our own game, on their field, being particularly vigilant of their counterattacks.”

Di María mocks Raphinha

On the other hand, Ángel Di María, the former star of "La Albiceleste", reacted to the statements of Raphinha, shared on several football accounts via Instagram. The Argentine accompanied his reaction with mocking laughter emojis, showing his skepticism towards the Brazilian player's words.

It should be noted that Brazil and Argentina will face each other in the early hours of tomorrow, Wednesday, as part of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
