Atletico Madrid’s loss to Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final was compounded by fresh injury concerns, with Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sørloth both ruled out of upcoming domestic fixtures and facing a race against time to be fit for the UEFA Champions League semi final against Arsenal on Wednesday 29 April.

Lookman and Sørloth sidelined after final

Medical assessments following the final confirmed that both forwards are currently unavailable. Lookman is dealing with a groin issue while Sørloth suffered a bruising injury that will also keep him out in the short term.

Both players are expected to miss La Liga matches against Elche and Athletic Bilbao reducing Diego Simeone’s attacking options at a critical point in the season.

Doubts ahead of Arsenal clash

The timing of the injuries raises concerns ahead of Atletico’s Champions League semi final first leg at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Lookman’s condition appears more uncertain. The Nigerian forward is undergoing rehabilitation with club specialists in an effort to accelerate his recovery but his availability for the Arsenal match remains in doubt.

Sørloth’s situation is being monitored closely, with cautious optimism that he could return in time depending on his recovery progress over the coming days.

Llorente offers slight relief

Amid the setbacks, there is more positive news regarding Marcos Llorente. The Spanish midfielder is currently dealing with muscle fatigue and physical stress but has not been ruled out.

Atletico’s medical staff are managing his workload carefully, with a tailored recovery plan aimed at avoiding further complications and ensuring he remains available for upcoming fixtures.
