2026 Women's AFCON: results and group D standings after matchday one
The opening day of Group D in the 2026 Women's AFCON took place this Wednesday in Casablanca. As expected, both Ghana and Cameroon kicked off their campaigns with wins.
The Black Queens outclassed Cape Verde 2-0 while the Indomitable Lionesses edged past Mali 2-1. In the standings, both winners occupy the top two spots ahead of matchday two.
Ghana claim a deserved win over Cape Verde
At Stade Moulay Rachid, the Black Queens got the job done 2-0 against Cape Verde. Portia Boakye set up Boris Boaduwa in the 7th minute for the opening goal. Ghana then managed the game and doubled their lead in the 53rd minute thanks to an own goal from Eleia Vieira.
Late in the match, Cape Verde were reduced to ten players after Kleydiana was sent off in the 90+1st minute. For their first ever Women's AFCON match, Cape Verde had a tough start.

Cameroon rely on Marie Ngah Manga
At Stade Larbi Zaouli, the Indomitable Lionesses had to fight hard to secure a 2-1 win over Mali. Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring in the 14th minute after an assist from Monique Ngock. Aïssata Traoré equalised from the penalty spot in the 30th minute for Mali. Cameroon dominated the second half with 67% possession and 17 shots, and were awarded a penalty in the 73rd minute. Ngah converted it, sealing her brace and the victory for the Lionesses.
Group D standings after matchday 1
Ghana top the group on goal difference, with Cameroon close behind. Mali and Cape Verde must respond in the next round if they hope to qualify.
