Brazil and Ecuador Book World Cup 2026 Spots as Qualified Teams Rise to 13
The list of qualified teams for the 2026 FIFA World Cup's grown to 13 nations following Brazil & Ecuador’s successful results in South American qualifiers.
Brazil secured their place with 1 - 0 win over Paraguay on Wednesday in the 16 round of the CONMEBOL qualifiers. Ecuador, meanwhile booked their spot after earning valuable draw against Peru in the same round.

The 13 nation confirmed so far for the expanded 48 team tournament are:
- South America: Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador
- Asia: Japan, South Korea, Australia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan
- Oceania: New Zealand
- North & Central America: United States, Canada, Mexico+
A Historic Expansion
The 2026 edition, co hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, marks the first time the World cup will feature 48 team instead of the traditional 32.
The new format , approved by FIFA opens up more spots for teams across all continents offering broader global representation.
