This led three clubs to file complaints with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Espérance de Tunis was the first to raise the alarm, protesting what it called "poor treatment" of its supporters at Loftus Versfeld Stadium during the match against South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns.

Next, Egyptian club Al Ahly contested the refereeing by Chadian official Al Hadj Aliou Mahamat during the first leg of the quarter-finals against Sudan's Al Hilal.
In turn, AS FAR Rabat issued a statement to also denounce the ban on some of its supporters from entering the stadium during the match against Pyramids. The Moroccan club also filed a complaint with the African football governing body.
