The South African club sought to ease tensions before their trip to Tunis for the second leg, scheduled for April 8, by apologizing to the Tunisian club.

Mamelodi Sundowns is deeply saddened by the undisciplined behavior displayed yesterday (April 1) during its CAF Champions League quarter-final match against Espérance de Tunis at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Sundowns awaits a full report from the match commissioner and is committed to cooperating with CAF to finalize its investigation before the second leg.

Espérance de Tunis is a respected sporting institution in Africa, and we hope that once all evidence is reviewed, our brothers and sisters at Espérance will also denounce this behavior and take the necessary steps to ensure that the next encounter is one where all supporters feel safe and welcome.

However, in line with our African culture of compassion and empathy (our African culture of Ubuntu), we are obliged to apologize to Espérance de Tunis and its supporters because the indiscreet behavior occurred in our stadium, despite videos and facts indicating that Sundowns supporters did not initiate the turbulent behavior.

A very classy gesture from the South African club, confirming its status as a giant of Africa.
