Callisto Pasuwa: "The sending off handicapped us" after Tunisia clash

In the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Malawi suffered a 2-0 defeat against Tunisia on matchday 6. This loss significantly jeopardizes Malawi's chances of participating in the global tournament.

On March 24, 2025, Tunisia defeated Malawi 2-0 at the Hamadi Agrebi Stadium in Radès. After a fiercely contested first half, Malawi was reduced to 10 men in the 64th minute following Llyod Aaron's dismissal for accumulating yellow cards. Malawi coach Callisto Pasuwa highlighted the negative impact of this numerical disadvantage on his team's performance. "The sending off handicapped us. It benefited the Tunisians. Add to that some individual mistakes."

The Carthage Eagles opened the scoring in the 86th minute through Seifeddine Jaziri. Late in the match, Tunisia was awarded a controversial penalty following a foul on Ali Abdi. Elias Achouri converted the opportunity in the 90+2 minute, sealing the outcome of the match. Coach Callisto Pasuwa expressed his discontent with this refereeing decision. "The penalty was harsh," he remarked.

At the end of this March international break, Malawi stands 5th in Group H with 6 points, while Tunisia remains the leader with 16 points.
