Cameroon: Hugo Ekitike reportedly now open to joining the Indomitable Lions

After previously turning down Cameroon, Hugo Ekitike is now reportedly open to shining in the colors of the Indomitable Lions.

Eligible to play for both France and Cameroon, Hugo Ekitike recently clarified his stance regarding a possible change of national team. During the first international break of the year, Ekitike, whose roots lie in Cameroon, had previously dismissed the idea of representing his country of origin. Two months later, in mid-May to be precise, he doubled down on his position.

However, recent statements attributed to the former PSG forward suggest he could now be considering Cameroon—especially if he continues to be overlooked by the French national team. "Playing for France is my ultimate dream. But if I keep getting snubbed by France, I really won’t have any choice but to represent my father’s country—I’m talking about Cameroon," he is reported to have said.

These comments surfaced on Facebook before being picked up by African media outlets. When asked about the authenticity of these remarks, Ekitike firmly denied them, according to Foot Mercato. "I have never spoken about my national team choice; I categorically deny what has recently been reported on the subject," he stated.
