The new Premier League season kicks off this weekend. Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and other contenders are all aiming to dethrone reigning champions Arsenal.

With Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool for Trabzonspor, the African pecking order in England has shifted a bit. However, in the absence of headline African signings this season, the five stars to watch were already plying their trade across the Channel. Let’s meet them.

Bryan Mbeumo – Manchester United

He’s a Premier League regular. After 242 appearances with Brentford, netting 70 goals and providing 51 assists, the Cameroonian winger made the move to Manchester United last summer.

After an impressive debut season with the Red Devils, Mbeumo is now expected to step up his game and take on even more attacking responsibilities in Michael Carrick’s setup. He scored 12 goals and delivered 3 assists in 34 matches in his first campaign.

Antoine Semenyo – Manchester City

The Ghanaian winger swapped Bournemouth for the Citizens last winter, signing a five-and-a-half-year deal. He struck 11 goals and notched 3 assists in 28 games under Pep Guardiola.

With Enzo Maresca now in charge, a new chapter begins for the Black Stars forward, expected to start on the flank alongside Jérémy Doku and Erling Haaland.

Omar Marmoush – Manchester City

The Egyptian needed a season and a half to adapt at Manchester City. Now more integrated, he’s poised to make an even bigger impact. The 27-year-old has been involved in 22 goals (16 scored, 6 assisted) across 62 appearances.

With Mohamed Salah’s departure to Turkey, Marmoush becomes the new flagbearer for the Pharaohs in the EPL. Now it’s up to him to earn Enzo Maresca’s trust.

Mohammed Kudus – Tottenham

The Ghanaian missed more than half of the 2025-26 season due to a hamstring injury. The former Ajax Amsterdam winger is determined to bounce back and showcase the full extent of his talent with the London club.

He’ll face stiff competition, though, as Spurs were among the most active clubs in the summer transfer window.

Habib Diarra – Sunderland

After scoring 2 goals in 3 matches for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, Habib Diarra is aiming to top last season’s record, where he notched 3 goals and 3 assists in 22 appearances for the Black Cats.
