Vladimir Petkovic's Algeria got off to a strong start against Sudan (3-0), even if the overall performance left something to be desired. Playing with a man advantage for most of the match, the Fennecs got the job done thanks to a brace from Riyad Mahrez and a goal from Ibrahim Maza, but never really took full control of the game. After two Africa Cup of Nations campaigns that began with disappointment (2021 and 2024), this victory at least offers some reassurance.

But at the final whistle, one scene stood out: Baghdad Bounedjah leaving the pitch without celebrating. Despite his valuable contribution and a crucial flick-on for the third goal, the striker appeared "disappointed, frustrated, angry," even refusing to shake hands with his captain. His reaction was clearly linked to not getting on the scoresheet himself.

Nothing to be too concerned about, though. That's just part of Bounedjah's character: he lives to score goals. Fans will be hoping he finds the back of the net against Burkina Faso to turn this frustration into fuel—and avoid any hint of controversy.
