Algeria team: Tebboune’s clear message after the 2026 World Cup

After Algeria’s run at the 2026 World Cup, Abdelmadjid Tebboune called for continuity around the Greens and praised their supporters.

Abdelmadjid Tebboune spoke about the future of the Algeria national team during his regular interview with representatives of the national media, broadcast on Monday evening. The President of the Republic emphasized the squad’s potential after their journey at the 2026 World Cup, which ended in the second round of the competition.

“There must not be a break”

The head of state believes that Algerian football has a true “nursery” of players and that “if it is properly managed, it can achieve great things.” Calling the Greens a “very fine team,” he especially urged to protect their current momentum: “There must not be a break.”

Algeria thus advanced past the group stage of a World Cup for only the second time in its history, after the 2014 campaign. Despite being knocked out in their first knockout match, the Greens’ run in the United States confirmed the emergence of a generation with significant room for growth.

This statement comes as the future of Vladimir Petkovic remains a hot topic. Since the national team manager was not mentioned by name, the president’s remarks do not amount to an official confirmation of his continuation. Nevertheless, they clearly reflect a desire to prioritize the continuity of the project and to preserve the current core of the squad.

Kansas City, much more than just a sporting memory

Abdelmadjid Tebboune also praised the behavior of Algerian supporters in Kansas City. “We are inviting the mayor (of that city) and the governor (of Kansas) for a friendly visit to Algeria,” he announced.

At the same time, around a hundred tourists have also been invited to discover the country. Beyond the sporting result, the passion sparked by the Greens has become a real instrument of international influence, as the supporters helped promote a positive image of Algeria during the World Cup.
