CAN 2025: CAF rejects Feguifoot's appeal in Guinea vs Tanzania case
CAF has made its decision. The appeal filed by the Guinean Football Federation after the defeat against Tanzania has been dismissed. The announcement came this Monday, June 16, ending Guinea's hopes of a lifeline.
The Confederation of African Football delivered its verdict this morning in the case between the Guinean Football Federation (Feguifoot) and the Tanzanian Federation, concerning the final matchday of the CAN 2025 qualifiers. The Appeals Jury of the governing body rejected the Guinean request, which alleged an irregularity in the eligibility of a Tanzanian player. This decision thus confirms Tanzania's qualification at the expense of the Syli National.
In an official statement released today, Feguifoot expressed its disappointment with a decision that came “without the reasons for the rejection.” The Guinean body accuses Tanzania of fielding an ineligible player during the match on November 19, 2024, in Dar es Salaam, which the Taifa Stars won 1-0.
"The Guinean Football Federation reaffirms its belief in the validity of its claim and announces its intention to take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). This step is all the more necessary since, throughout the disciplinary proceedings before the CAF bodies, the Guinean Football Federation faced serious infringements of the most basic procedural rights," Feguifoot stated.
