CAN 2025: CAF unveils the referees for the semi-finals

On the eve of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 semi-finals, scheduled for January 14, the Confederation of African Football has revealed the referee teams appointed for these two decisive showdowns: Senegal vs Egypt in Tangier and Nigeria vs Morocco in Rabat. These highly anticipated appointments come as refereeing has been at the heart of debates since the start of the knockout stage.

For Senegal vs Egypt (5 p.m. GMT, Tangier Stadium), CAF has entrusted the whistle to Pierre Ghislain Atcho, assisted by Boris Marlaise Ditsoga, Styven Moutsassi Moyo, and Amos Abeigne Ndong. The fourth official will be Jean-Jacques Ngambo Ndala. Video assistance will be provided by Peter Waweru Kamaku, with Letticia Antonella Viana and Elvis Guy Noupue Nguegoue, while Inacio Manuel Candido will serve as the assessor.

For Nigeria vs Morocco (8 p.m. GMT, Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium), the central referee will be Daniel Nii Ayi Laryea, supported by Zakhele Thusi Granville Siwela, Souru Phatsoane, and Arsénio Chadreque Maringule. Samuel Uwikunda will act as the fourth official. In the VAR room, Abongile Tom will be assisted by Haythem Guirat and Stephen Onyango Yiembe, under the supervision of assessor Lidya Tafesse Abebe. In a CAN already marked by several controversies, these semi-finals will be watched with particular attention.
