Bradley Barcola has finally produced his defining performance for Liverpool, earning recognition after his hat-trick in the Reds’ spectacular European victory.

The Austrian evening may have served as a real turning point for Bradley Barcola. The French winger was officially named Champions League Player of the Week, the day after his outstanding performance in Liverpool’s 6-3 victory away to LASK.

The Frenchman scored a hat-trick, his first goals since joining the Reds. He found the net in the 24th and 37th minutes before completing his treble in the 66th minute. The performance was all the more significant because he had neither scored nor provided an assist in his first six appearances in his new colors.

A hat-trick that could finally kick-start his Liverpool adventure

This award therefore comes at the best possible time for a player who was particularly eagerly awaited at Anfield. Liverpool made a considerable investment to sign him from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer: €125 million in guaranteed fees, with a further €20 million potentially payable in bonuses, making it a deal that could reach €145 million.

The fee inevitably placed the France international under pressure from his first weeks in England. His quiet start to the season had begun to raise the first questions, but this first career hat-trick could do him a great deal of good in terms of confidence. His arrival at Liverpool had also been accompanied by very high expectations after his successful seasons in Paris.

Liverpool perfect in Europe, much less so in the Premier League

The victory over LASK also allows the Reds to continue their excellent start in the Champions League. After two matchdays, Liverpool have six points from six and currently sit fifth in the league phase, with a goal difference of +4.

The contrast is much sharper in the Premier League. After six matchdays, Andoni Iraola’s side are only ninth with nine points. They are also coming off a heavy 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield.

In this context, seeing Barcola finally open his account with three goals and immediately win a European award is excellent news for Liverpool, who will now expect their new signing to confirm this form in the coming matches.
