Club Africain: David Bettoni could leave this summer
David Bettoni may be on his way out of Club Africain this summer. On Sunday, May 11, 2025, after a defeat to Étoile du Sahel in Tunis, the 53-year-old manager admitted he was unsure whether he would remain at the helm of the Tunisian side next season.
Since his arrival in the summer of 2024, David Bettoni has worked to steady the ship at the Club Africain, a historic name in Tunisian football. Under his guidance, the team currently sits fourth in the Tunisian Ligue 1 table with 55 points, trailing ES Tunis (1st), Monastir (2nd), and Etoile du Sahel (3rd).
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Bettoni voiced his uncertainty about what lies ahead. Although his contract officially runs until June 30, 2026, Bettoni could see his tenure cut short as soon as this summer if Club Africain fails to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup—a target clearly outlined in his deal.
"We need to review the project we set out. Results matter too. It's like a marriage. Maybe the club doesn't want me anymore. Maybe I don't want to stay. Right now, the most important thing is to lift the players' spirits before the final match against AS Gabès, because we have a fourth place to protect. There's also a trophy at stake in the Tunisian Cup. We need to focus on that. After that, I don't know if I'll stay or not next season. It's a bit early to talk about it," David Bettoni publicly stated.
