Club World Cup 2025: FIFA shuts the door on Al-Nassr!
Saudi media have revealed that FIFA has put an end to the speculations regarding Al-Nassr's possible participation in the Club World Cup in place of the Mexican Club León.
Club World Cup 2025: FIFA says no to Al-Nassr!
According to the Saudi newspaper Arriyadiyah, FIFA has ruled out any possibility of inviting Cristiano Ronaldo's team or any other Saudi club to replace León. The global football body justified this decision based on the team rankings and the allocation of places, with Asia having already filled its quota of four representatives.
A source within FIFA's executive committee confirmed this stance by stating:
“It is very unlikely that Al-Nassr or any other Saudi club will be invited to replace León in the Club World Cup, as the ranking criteria do not allow it and the four places allocated to Asia are already filled.”
The same official also reminded that the competition rules prohibit two clubs from the same country from participating, unless one of them has won a continental competition between 2021 and 2024. Saudi Arabia already has its official representative: Al-Hilal.
As a reminder, Club León was excluded from the tournament due to a breach of the multi-ownership regulations. The Pachuca group, which owns both León and Pachuca, could not register two teams in the competition, which contravenes FIFA's rules.
