Club World Cup: What attacking trio for Wydad against Manchester City?

On Wednesday, Wydad Casablanca will take on Manchester City in their official debut at the 2025 Club World Cup. Against the suffocating pressing and technical mastery of the English powerhouse, what attacking setup should the Moroccans deploy?

On the eve of this clash with Pep Guardiola’s side at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, head coach Mohamed Amine Ben Hachem reportedly already has a clear vision of his starting eleven. In the run-up to the big match, Wydad cruised to a thumping friendly win over Canadian club Saint Laurent (7-0). That game allowed several players to make their case, particularly Samuel Obeng. The Ghanaian striker, who netted a hat-trick, is expected to lead the line, pushing new Syrian signing Omar Al Soma to the bench for this opening group fixture.

Surrounding Obeng, coach Mohamed Amine Ben Hachem may bet on experience. Nordin Amrabat, a recent arrival, would bring his vision to the right wing, while Thembinkosi Lorch, on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, would operate on the left flank.

This attacking lineup promises dynamism and variety against the Sky Blues' defense, though the task ahead is daunting. Up against the relentless pressing and technical prowess of Pep Guardiola’s men, Wydad will need to show resilience and clinical finishing.
