Club World Cup: Yassine Meriah returns to action with Espérance de Tunis

Tunisian international Yassine Meriah returned to the pitch on Wednesday for Espérance after nearly six months on the sidelines.

The 32-year-old defender featured in the friendly against Association Sportive de l'Ariana, a match that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Fully recovered from a cruciate ligament injury, the captain of the “Carthage Eagles” is expected to make his official comeback next Sunday in the Tunisian Cup semi-final clash against Union Sportive de Ben Guerdane.

This is a fantastic boost for the Blood and Gold just weeks before the kick-off of the Club World Cup, with the final phase set to take place in the United States from June 14.

For the record, the draw has placed the Tunisian side in Group D alongside Flamengo (Brazil), Chelsea (England), and either Los Angeles FC (USA) or Club America (Mexico).
