The technical staff of the Algerian team, led by Swiss Vladimir Petković (61 years old), is on high alert after Ismaël Bennacer's absence during the clash between Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, March 16.

According to several French sources, OM's coach, Roberto De Zerbi, had to do without the Algerian midfielder for health reasons.

According to Foot Mercato, Bennacer felt muscle discomfort during his club's last training session and, on the recommendation of the medical staff, was unable to play in the Classique against PSG.

The absence of the Algerian playmaker did not prevent the Parisian club from dominating their Marseille rivals with a clear victory (3-1) at Parc des Princes, extending their lead to 19 points.

Petković forced to revise his plans?

This setback comes just days before the Fennecs' gathering in preparation for the matches against Botswana and Mozambique, counting for the 5th and 6th rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

In light of this situation, some sources suggest that Vladimir Petković might call up reinforcements in midfield. Names like Yacine Titraoui (Charleroi, Belgium) and Haris Belkebla (Angers, France) have been mentioned, but this option was quickly dismissed, as neither player is on the extended pre-list of the squad.
