Cosafa Cup 2025: Angola crush South Africa to retain their title
Angola outclassed South Africa 3-0 in the Cosafa Cup final on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. Thanks to a brace from Depú and a stunning free-kick by Felício Joao, the Palancas Negras secured back-to-back titles in this regional tournament.
Angola brilliantly defended their crown with a convincing win over South Africa in this afternoon's Cosafa Cup 2025 final. This victory marks their fifth trophy in the regional competition, following triumphs in 1999, 2001, 2004, and 2024.
Angola in control, South Africa stunned
Despite a first half where South Africa dominated possession and created several chances, it was Angola who broke the deadlock just before halftime. Depú, already in fine form, found the back of the net in the 43rd minute after a well-worked move. The Bafana Bafana failed to capitalize on their opportunities, and their lack of efficiency proved costly.
In the second half, Angola extended their lead. Depú, the true spearhead of his team, struck again to complete his brace and make it 2-0 in the 62nd minute, shattering South African hopes. Super-sub Felício Milson sealed the scoreline with a third goal in the 81st minute.
