Over just two editions of the COSAFACup (2024 and 2025), Depú has become a tournament legend. The Angolan striker, with 13 goals in 12 matches, has shattered all records and played a pivotal role in the Palancas Negras' back-to-back titles in this prestigious regional competition.
The Angola national team clinched the 2025 COSAFA Cup on Sunday, June 15, with a brilliant 3-0 victory over South Africa's Bafana Bafana in Bloemfontein. 5 key facts about Depú, Angola's prolific marksman at the COSAFA CUP
Born on January 8, 2000, in Lobito, Angola, his full name is Laurindo Dilson Maria Aurélio. Like many Angolan players, he adopted a nickname for simplicity—he's best known as Depú.
Before joining Gil Vicente, Depú played for several Angolan clubs: Academia de Futebol, Clube Recreativo da Caála, Sagrada Esperança, and Petro Luanda between 2020 and 2023.
Signed in 2023, the Palancas Negras striker made 24 appearances for Gil Vicente in the Portuguese Liga, before being loaned to Vojvodina on September 11, 2024. He currently has 24 appearances and 1 goal across all competitions in Serbia.
With 5 goals in the 2024 COSAFA Cup, Depú led Angola to the trophy and claimed the Top Scorer award for that edition.
He netted 8 goals during the 2025 COSAFA Cup. Champion again with Angola, Depú was crowned both Top Scorer and Player of the Tournament in 2025, and is now the all-time leading scorer in the competition's history among Southern African nations.
