Diego Simeone is steadily climbing the ranks of Europe’s most successful Champions League managers, with the Atletico Madrid coach now closing in on historic figures such as Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Argentine who has led Atletico Madrid for over a decade, has built one of the most consistent projects in modern European football and his record in the competition reflects that stability.

Ferguson sets the benchmark

According to data from Transfermarkt, Sir Alex Ferguson remains the benchmark when it comes to points collected in Champions League with a single club.

The former Manchester United manager amassed 365 point from 194 match, a record built on long term dominance and sustained success at the highest level of European football.

His total includes both group stage and knockout matches, calculated under the standard system of three point for a win and one for a draw.

Simeone’s steady rise

Simeone is now firmly among the leading names on that list. The Atletico Madrid coach has collected 222 point from 129 match placing him third in the all time ranking for a single club.

Only Arsène Wenger sits between Simeone and Ferguson, with the former Arsenal manager recording 285 point during his time in charge of the Premier League side.

Simeone’s numbers underline Atletico’s consistency in Europe having regularly competed deep into the tournament since his arrival.

Europe’s top managers in the mix

The list also includes several of the game’s most influential modern coaches.

Pep Guardiola has accumulated 210 point with Manchester City while Carlo Ancelotti appears twice with 173 point at Real Madrid and 136 with AC Milan.

Elsewhere Jürgen Klopp has reached 129 point with Liverpool placing him alongside other notable figures such as Ottmar Hitzfeld (134 point with Bayern Munich) & Marcello Lippi (133 point with Juventus).

What sets this ranking apart is not just success but longevity. Managers who remain at one club long enough to build a sustained Champions League presence are increasingly rare in modern football.
