A few minutes after Atlético Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the derby, Diego Simeone was asked about FC Barcelona’s start to the season. The Argentine coach was particularly impressed by the Catalans’ style of play.

Simeone impressed by Barça’s play

For Simeone, FC Barcelona are currently performing at a level that clearly sets them apart from their competitors. “It looks like they’re playing a completely different sport from the one we’re playing,” the Atlético coach told ESPN.

The Argentine notably highlighted Barça’s attacking efficiency. He mentioned Raphinha, who has scored twelve goals according to his comments, as well as Lamine Yamal, credited with seven goals.

Pressing that makes the difference

Simeone also considers the high press to be one of the main strengths of the team managed by Hansi Flick.

They push you very high up in your own half and take time away from you. They don’t worry about the risks or about conceding goals.

The coach of Atlético concluded with a clear assessment of Barça’s current momentum: “They are the best right now.”
