On Thursday, March 27, Qatari channel beIN Sports announced that Egypt had expressed its interest and readiness to host the Africa U20 Cup of Nations, following the surprise withdrawal of Ivory Coast.
The official beIN Sports account on social network X indicated that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had proposed Egypt to replace Ivory Coast as the host of the competition. The latter withdrew at the last moment following a decision by the Ivorian government.
The same source added that Egypt has confirmed its readiness and willingness to organize the tournament in its stadiums. Furthermore, Egypt is among the 13 participating teams, having been placed in a tough group with Morocco, South Africa, and Nigeria.
The message posted by beIN Sports on X was as follows:
"The Confederation of African Football proposes Egypt to host the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in place of Ivory Coast, who has withdrawn, and Egypt is ready to accept the request."
Initially, Ivory Coast was supposed to host this competition, which involves 13 teams, in April and May of this year. However, they had to pull out after receiving an official message from the government asking them to desist from organizing the tournament.
