Mohamed Salah has given up a £20 million loyalty bonus to accelerate his departure from Liverpool at the end of the 2025 /26 season, with interest rising from Saudi clubs and Major League Soccer.

Salah sacrifices bonus to leave early

The 33 year old forward recently confirmed he will leave Liverpool after nine years at the club bringing an end to one of the most successful eras in his career.

According to reports from The Sun, Salah chose to forfeit a loyalty bonus worth £20 million which he would have earned if he had stayed until the end of his contract in the summer of 2027.

This decision allows the Egyptian star to leave earlier opening the door for a major transfer during the upcoming summer window. It also highlights his desire to explore a new chapter rather than extend his stay at Anfield.

Financial boost for Liverpool

Salah’s departure is also expected to significantly reduce Liverpool’s wage bill. The club will reportedly save up to £40.8 million once he leaves, largely due to his weekly salary of around £400,000.

For Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s ownership, the move represents major financial relief as they prepare to reshape the squad ahead of the new season. The club now has more flexibility to reinvest in younger talents and rebuild their attacking line.
