England: Thomas Partey named in suspicious cases
Thomas Partey

Thomas Partey has been accused of five rapes involving two different women. At least, that's what British authorities announced this Friday.

The announcement came this Friday, July 4. Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, whose contract with Arsenal has just ended, has been charged with rape, British police announced on Friday. The charges concern five rapes involving two women and a sexual assault on a third, which are alleged to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, according to a police statement.

At the start of last season, the midfielder faced backlash from fans during the opening match against Crystal Palace. The former Atlético de Madrid player was booed every time he touched the ball by the crowd. A banner towed by an airplane above the stadium was also spotted, reading: "Get rapists off the pitch".

Now a free agent following the end of his contract with Arsenal on June 30, the Ghana international is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. Partey, for his part, "denies all the allegations made against him" and "looks forward to the opportunity to finally clear his name", his lawyer said Friday afternoon, as quoted by the English press.
