Franco Mastantuono etched his name into Argentine football history on Friday becoming the youngest player ever to feature for the national team surpassing none other than Lionel Messi.

Historic Debut at Just 17

The River Plate midfielder aged just 17 year and 295 day, came on in the 84 minute during Argentina’s narrow 1 -0 World cup qualifying win over hosts Chile. He replaced Thiago Almada making record breaking first appearance for the Albiceleste.

With this feat, Mastantuono broke Messi’s long standing record, set in 2005 when the legendary forward debuted at 18 year & 54 day.
