From Orlando Pirates to Al Ahly: Riveiro’s New Challenge Begins

Al Ahly SC, fresh off their 45th Egyptian Premier League title have confirmed the appointment of Spanish manager Jose Riveiro as the new head coach on 2 year contract, the club announced on Thursday.

Coaching Reshuffle Completed

Riveiro replaces Swiss coach Marcel Koller who was dismissed after disappointing CAF Champions league campaign.

Interim boss Emad El Nahhas who steered the team to domestic glory, will remain on the technical staff as assistant head coach.

Al Ahly’s sporting director Mohamed Youssef detailed the new look coaching team which includes:

• Carlos Nodar – Assistant Coach
• Miguel Pepeira – Fitness Coach
• Juan Jose – Goalkeeping Coach
• Sebastian Podsiadly – Performance Analyst

Big Stage Ahead: Club World Cup Debut

Ribeiro’s first challenge will be the 2025 fifa Club World cup in the United States. Al Ahly begin their campaign on 15 Jun against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in high stakes opening match. Group A also features FC Porto & Palmeiras.

From South Africa to Africa’s Club of the Century

Ribeiro most recently managed Orlando Pirates leading them to the CAF Champions league semi finals before resigning.

His move to Al Ahly marks step up in African football as he takes charge of the continent's most decorated club.

The appointment signals Al Ahly’s ambition to regain continental dominance and make deep run at the Club World cup under new leadership.
